Stefan Evers has been named the new CDU candidate in Berlin, replacing Kai Wegner. The announcement has drawn criticism from other parties, particularly the SPD. Steffen Krach, the SPD candidate, criticized Evers' proposals, including plans to involve welfare recipients in city cleaning and to abolish free school meals for wealthy families. Krach called these proposals populist and flawed, stating that the CDU is not offering a credible new start.
Evers was elected unanimously by the CDU state executive on Monday afternoon. Krach criticized Evers for supporting Kai Wegner until recently, saying that Evers had backed Wegner even when it was clear that Wegner had no future in the party. "Bei der CDU ist es eine Rochade. Ich glaube, einen Politikwechsel sehen wir da nicht," said Krach in a RBB "Spezial" broadcast with various politicians on Monday evening.
Other parties, including the Greens and the Left, also criticized Evers' record as finance senator, pointing to cuts in social and cultural areas. "Das System CDU existiert ja weiter, egal ob Herr Wegner da vorne steht oder Herr Evers," said AfD candidate Kristin Brinker.
In Romania, the political landscape is also heated. The PSD party is accused of blocking laws related to the PNRR (Italian recovery plan). Dominic Fritz, the president of USR, criticized PSD for prioritizing political interests over public welfare, stating that PSD wants to remove Ilie Bolojan from power rather than focusing on the needs of Romanians.
Sorin Grindeanu of PSD suggested that the party might not vote on the remaining PNRR laws, calling it a strategy to pressure the government. "PSD nu poate fi de acord cu folosirea PNRR drept paravan mediatic pentru interesele obscure ale unor lideri de dreapta," said Grindeanu at the Parliament.
Fritz responded by accusing PSD of being obsessed with removing Bolojan from power, saying that it would not improve the lives of Romanians. "Asta este obsesia lor politică, care nu îmbunătățește cu absolut nimic viața românilor," said Fritz in an interview with Digi24.
