Romania's lottery jackpots surge past 5.6 million as Noroc tops 1.28 million
Romania’s lottery jackpots surged past €5.6 million on Sunday as the national draw for Loto 6/49 reached its highest ever cumulative prize, while the companion game Noroc topped €1.28 million in a single session. The record haul—announced by Loteria Română at 19:00 CET on 7 June 2026—drew thousands of hopeful players to kiosks across Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Iași, where queues formed within minutes of the midday draw. The main prize, already carried over from Saturday, climbed to €5,620,000 after no ticket matched all six numbers on Saturday evening .
Noroc, Romania’s fast-draw variant, added €1,280,000 to its prize pool on Sunday alone, bringing its weekend total to more than €2.1 million. The Joker game contributed an additional €547,300, while Super Noroc and Loto 5/40 offered six-figure prizes. Loteria Română confirmed that all draws were audited by Deloitte Romania and broadcast live on Digi24 and HotNews.ro, with the winning numbers for 6/49 recorded as 7, 19, 23, 34, 41, and 49 .
Economists noted that the surge in lottery spending—estimated at €18 million nationwide on Sunday—reflects broader consumer caution amid persistent inflation and stagnant wage growth. “When real incomes stagnate, small windfalls become psychologically more attractive,” said Dr. Ioana Mărginean, an economist at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. She added that the jackpot’s psychological lure often outweighs rational cost-benefit analysis during periods of economic uncertainty .
The record prize comes as Romania’s government prepares to introduce stricter controls on gambling advertising, scheduled to take effect on 1 July 2026. Under the new rules, lottery operators must display health warnings and limit promotional broadcasts to after 22:00. Critics argue the measures do not go far enough, while operators warn of potential revenue losses. “We are committed to responsible gaming, but the state should also address the structural causes of gambling demand,” said Dragoș Pîslaru, a Social Democrat MP and former minister of labour.
Loteria Română has not yet announced whether the €5.62 million jackpot will roll over again next Saturday, but industry analysts predict at least one more carry-over given the current trend. The next draw is scheduled for 21:00 CET on 10 June 2026.
