Shark injures diver off Tasmania coast: police report latest in Australian attacks
A 31-year-old diver was injured in a shark attack off the coast of Tasmania on Saturday, police said. The incident occurred around 9:10 am when the diver was bitten by what is believed to be a 2-meter broadnose sevengill shark. The man was able to return to shore and was airlifted to the hospital in stable condition. This is the latest in a series of shark attacks in Australian waters.
In other incidents, police in Ayia Napa, Cyprus, seized 1,423 containers of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and arrested two people during a raid on Saturday. In Sarajevo, one person was arrested in an operation targeting migrant smuggling. In The Hague, police discovered a drug lab in a residential neighborhood and arrested two suspects.
In Oulu, Finland, police stopped a young person driving a stolen truck while drunk. The driver was underage, unlicensed, and intoxicated. The incident occurred early Saturday morning, and the young person spent at least one night in police custody.
In other news, a 15-year-old boy died in a swimming accident in Hamburg on Friday evening. The boy was swimming with friends to a nearby island when he got into trouble and was pulled from the water. Despite resuscitation attempts, he died later in the hospital.
A 17-year-old worker died in a machinery accident in Szeged, Hungary. The worker was pulled into a machine used for cutting and packaging insulation boards. The company owner confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the victim's family.
In southwest China, a landslide killed eight people and left 34 missing. The landslide occurred on the outskirts of Chongqing city.
