Trump administration mishandled Epstein files release, JD Vance admits on podcast
Vice President JD Vance admitted on Wednesday that the Trump administration "absolutely screwed up" the communication surrounding the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Speaking on "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast, Vance acknowledged that the administration had mishandled the rollout of the documents. "I say this with all candor, like we absolutely screwed up the comms of the Epstein files, like we just did," Vance said. He emphasized that the mistakes were not due to an attempt to hide information but rather due to false claims made by officials.
Vance specifically pointed to then-Attorney General Pam Bondi, who had stated that a client list of Epstein's was on her desk. "She overstated what we had and what we didn't have," Vance said. Bondi was dismissed by President Donald Trump in April.
The Epstein files pertain to the case of Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy financier convicted of sex crimes involving minors. Epstein died in his prison cell in 2019. The release of the files has been a contentious issue, with critics arguing that the administration's handling of the documents was flawed.
Vance also suggested that Epstein had connections to high levels of American and Israeli intelligence communities, although he did not provide evidence for this claim. "He clearly had connections to the highest levels of the American intelligence community, the Israeli intelligence community," Vance said.
The administration's handling of the Epstein files has been criticized for delays and extensive redactions, which some believe were intended to protect not just victims but also potential accomplices.
