Manchester United sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea and pursue Tielemans as Klopp holds DFB talks

Manchester United have completed the £48m signing of Brazil international Andrey Santos from Chelsea and are in advanced talks to sign Aston Villa's Youri Tielemans as they look to revamp their midfield. The Red Devils agreed a fee with Chelsea for Santos last week, and the 22-year-old has now completed his medical and signed a deal to June 2031, with the option to extend for a further year.
"Andrey is an outstanding midfielder with excellent technical qualities and the ability to impact the game at both ends of the pitch," said director of football Jason Wilcox. Santos, who was part of the Chelsea squad that won the Club World Cup in 2025, made 43 appearances for them last season. He was not selected for the World Cup and has already started training with Manchester United. He could be involved early in their pre-season campaign, which begins against Wrexham in Helsinki on 18 July .
The announcement comes as confidence is growing that a deal can also be done for Tielemans. The 29-year-old has been on United's radar for a considerable time, and his Villa contract contains a release clause of £41m, which makes negotiations easier. Tielemans was a key figure in Belgium's run to the World Cup quarter-finals but was forced to pull out of the 2-1 defeat by Spain after suffering an injury in the warm-up. He prefers to join Manchester United over other interested clubs, including Saudi Arabian teams. However, his departure would be a blow to Aston Villa manager Unai Emery, who had planned to build his team around Tielemans .
Meanwhile, the German Football Association (DFB) has started talks with Jurgen Klopp for the national team coach position. The former Liverpool manager has been a target for the DFB, and initial discussions have taken place in New York. The DFB is confident of reaching a deal with Klopp, who is currently a pundit for a major broadcasting network .
