Werchter Boutique concerts cancelled early as storms force evacuations

Werchter Boutique cut short on Saturday evening after organisers cancelled all remaining concerts in anticipation of violent storms, including the headline act by Katy Perry, which was scrapped entirely.
The Belgian festival, held in Werchter, was evacuated shortly after Pitbull’s set concluded at around 22:00 local time on Saturday, 27 June 2026, following a severe weather alert issued by national meteorological services. Organisers confirmed the decision in a statement released late Saturday, citing “dangerous weather conditions” and a code orange warning for thunderstorms across nearly the entire country . The abrupt closure mirrored the earlier evacuation of Couleur Café in Brussels, which was also shut down the same evening due to the same weather front.
Katy Perry, the festival’s announced headliner for Sunday, was already on site and had begun preparations when organisers made the call to cancel her performance. The pop star expressed her disappointment in an Instagram post, writing, “I was backstage in makeup and hair when this news came in, and they gave me no choice. I’m just as disappointed as you are,” alongside a photo of herself in full stage attire . Her set, scheduled for Sunday evening, has not been rescheduled, and no further updates on a possible replacement date have been provided.
The decision to halt activities at Werchter Boutique followed closely on the heels of similar precautionary measures taken at Amsterdam’s Olympisch Stadion, where rapper Lil Kleine’s concert was also terminated early on Saturday night due to lightning and heavy rain. Lil Kleine later took to social media to acknowledge fans’ frustration, stating, “Safety always comes first,” while emphasising that organisers had followed official advice in making the call .
Across Belgium and the Netherlands, the weekend’s cultural calendar has been repeatedly disrupted by the same weather system. Paradise City Festival in Lier, which had been running since Friday, announced it would pause all performances from 22:00 on Saturday and remain closed through Sunday. Meanwhile, in Berlin, the Berlin Philharmonic shortened its season-closing concert in the Waldbühne after lightning was spotted in the sky.
Meteorologists have warned that the unstable conditions, characterised by severe thunderstorms and potential flooding, are expected to persist into Sunday. Festival organisers across the region have indicated they are monitoring the situation closely and will provide further updates as conditions evolve.
