Samsung unveils three new foldable phones with titanium-based display to reduce crease visibility
Samsung unveiled its 2026 foldable lineup on Wednesday, introducing three new models for the first time in its eight-generation foldable family. The lineup includes the top-of-the-line Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, a reimagined Galaxy Z Fold8 with a wider form factor, and a slimmer Galaxy Z Flip8.
The new models feature significant improvements in display technology. Samsung has introduced Flex Titanium, a new display technology that uses a titanium-based carrier structure to reduce the visibility of the fold crease and improve durability. According to Samsung, this is the biggest advancement in its fold technology since the introduction of foldable devices.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the wider Galaxy Z Fold8 both feature impressively thin designs, measuring 4.1 mm and 4.5 mm when unfolded, respectively. The Z Fold8 Ultra has a 6.5-inch OLED outer display and an 8-inch inner display, while the wider Z Fold8 has a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is designed to be more suitable for reading documents and watching videos.
The Galaxy Z Flip8, with its clamshell design, is aimed at users who prefer a more compact device. It features a 4.1-inch outer display and a 6.9-inch inner display with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
The new foldable devices are available for preorder starting today, but they come with a higher price tag due to a component shortage. The Galaxy Z Flip8 is now priced well over a grand, and the Ultra model costs almost twice as much.
Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event in London also included the launch of several other products, including smartwatches and intelligent eyewear. The event marked Samsung's broadest hardware refresh in years.
The new foldable models aim to address some of the long-standing issues with foldable phones, such as the visibility of the fold crease and the durability of the display. With the new Flex Titanium technology, Samsung claims to have made significant progress in these areas.
The new devices are expected to be available starting August 7.
