Hungary to mark 70th anniversary of 1956 revolution on Budapests Kossuth Square

Hungary will hold its state commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the 1956 revolution on Kossuth Square in Budapest, Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced Sunday evening on Facebook. The event is scheduled for Oct. 23 at 4 p.m., with Magyar inviting “the entire Hungarian nation to honor the heroes of freedom with dignity.”
Magyar said the program details remain undisclosed but confirmed invitations had been extended to numerous foreign dignitaries, including French President Emmanuel Macron and leaders from most European countries. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was also invited, though Magyar did not specify whether Netanyahu would be detained if he attended.
Earlier, Magyar had urged Hungarian companies to contribute to financing the commemoration within their means .
