Houthis launch missile and drone strikes on Saudi cities Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan
Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis launched ballistic missiles and drones at multiple southern Saudi cities on Wednesday, including Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan, the Saudi-led coalition said in a statement. The attacks marked the second consecutive day of strikes on the kingdom after Tuesday’s assault wounded 73 people and set oil installations ablaze, according to the coalition.
Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki said the Houthis were targeting [Saudi Arabia’s](en.wikipedia.org) national assets and infrastructure, and vowed the coalition would respond “responsibly” to protect the kingdom’s sovereignty, civilians and assets. Saudi Civil Defense lifted air raid alerts in Khamis Mushait and Abha on Wednesday following the strikes.
The Houthis have framed their attacks as retaliation for Saudi escalation in Yemen, where the Saudi-led coalition has conducted airstrikes in recent days. Houthi-run Al Masirah TV reported at least 32 people were killed in Saudi strikes on Yemen’s Al Jawf over the past two days, though Saudi Arabia has not confirmed those operations. The coalition has said it would take measures to deter further Houthi attacks.
