AWS secures NATO Restricted cloud approval for classified data across all member countries

Amazon Web Services has obtained NATO Restricted cloud approval, allowing its services to process classified data at the NATO Restricted level across all 32 member countries, the company announced on Thursday.
The approval covers AWS services authorized for NATO Restricted workloads, which can now be deployed in AWS cloud regions located within NATO member states. AWS currently operates 15 such regions, including seven in continental Europe. The validation was conducted by Spain’s National Cryptology Center (CCN), with results approved and shared across the Alliance.
AWS documented compliance with NATO Directive D32, which outlines security requirements for handling NATO Restricted information in public clouds. While the Alliance-wide approval provides a common security baseline, individual member states retain their own accreditation processes for specific applications or systems.
Dylan Browne, director general of the NATO Communications and Information Agency, said the access to commercial products meeting NATO security standards expands technological options for the Alliance. AWS highlighted its Trusted Secure Enclave – Sensitive Edition as the technical foundation for this offering in sensitive environments.
