Cyberattack exposes personal data of millions at three UK airports: Manchester group suspends online bookings
Manchester Airports Group confirmed on Thursday that a cyberattack exposed the personal data of 8.7 million customers across three UK airports it operates: Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands.
The group stated the breach involved an unauthorized third party accessing customer data related to parking reservations, lounge bookings, Fast Track security services and airport Wi-Fi registrations. Compromised information includes email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registration plates and postal codes. Financial payment data was not affected, according to MAG, and the incident caused no operational disruptions to flights or airport services .
MAG first detected the attack over the weekend but was only formally notified on Tuesday. The company said it immediately contained the risk and is working with specialized advisors to protect customers and systems. Online management of future bookings has been temporarily suspended as a precaution, though existing reservations remain unaffected .
The Manchester Evening News reported the 8.7 million figure, which MAG did not explicitly confirm in its statement. The group reiterated that passenger and aviation security were never at risk during the incident .
