London AI chip startup Olix raises 270.5m at 2.8bn valuation led by US investor Fundomo

London-based AI chip startup Olix raised €270.5 million in a Series B funding round at a €2.8 billion valuation, the company announced on Monday. The round more than tripled its valuation from just over $1 billion in February, when it secured $220 million.
The funding was led by New York-based VC Fundomo, with participation from chip designer Arm, quant trading firm Hudson River Trading, and angel investors including Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings. Existing backers, such as the UK government’s Sovereign AI fund, also increased their commitments. Olix, founded in 2024 by 25-year-old James Dacombe, appointed former Wise CFO Matt Briers as its new CFO and added Stanford computer science professor Nick McKeown to its board.
Olix is developing an optical digital processor with a specialized memory and interconnect architecture designed for AI inference workloads. The company stated it aims to challenge Nvidia’s dominance by using tailored chips for different stages of token production, arguing that current general-purpose chips have reached efficiency limits. Dacombe, who is also CEO of brain-monitoring startup CoMind, told the Financial Times that “we are moving into a world of specialists.”
The startup is finalizing chip designs and testing, with plans to deliver its first products to customers in 2027. Olix’s pitch centers on improving performance and cost by replacing general-purpose chips with specialized hardware for each step of AI model processing.

Whats behind the peptide boom and why it matters to Switzerland Peptides, a class of drugs made of short chains of amino acids, are in growing demand for everything from weight loss and muscle aches to longevity and rare cancers. This is good news for Switzerland, which is home to some of the largest peptide manufacturers in the world. On July 20, South Korean contract biopharmaceutical manufacturer Samsung Biologics announced plans to acquire Swiss company PolyPeptide in an all-cash deal for around CHF1.46 billion ($1.81 billion). This made it the largest ever M&A deal by a South Korean biopharmaceutical company, according to the Korea JoongAng Daily. Few people inside or outside Switzerland have heard of PolyPeptide, whose origins date back over 70 years, but its one of the worlds largest contract manufacturers of peptides. The drug class, which includes GLP-1 therapies for weight loss and diabetes, is a booming market. PolyPeptide, which has just over 1,400 employees, produces one third of the commercially approved peptides in the world.

Employment prospects improve in Switzerland Despite global uncertainties, the outlook for the Swiss labour market is improving. This is according to the employment indicator calculated by the KOF Institute, the economic research centre at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH Zurich. The index stood at 2.1 points in the third quarter, up 0.5 points on the April–June period and once again in line with the +2.1 recorded in the first three months of the year, according to tables published on Monday by the KOF. The index – which is based on responses from 4,200 companies – therefore remains above the long-term average of 1.7 points. After peaking in mid-2022, the indicator had fallen steadily for around three years, slipping into negative territory in the third quarter of 2025 for the first time since the pandemic. The recovery that began in the final quarter of last year is therefore continuing. + Swiss job market stagnates At sector level, the most significant rise was recorded in the retail trade, where the figure ...
