French modeling scout linked to Epstein found dead near Paris amid rape probe
Daniel Siad, a French modeling scout linked to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has been found dead at his home outside Paris, prosecutors said on Wednesday. Siad's body was discovered on Monday evening in the Paris suburb of Colombes.
Siad, 69, was under investigation in France over allegations of rape and human trafficking. He had denied the allegations, stating that he wanted to be heard to give his version of events. An autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of death, the Nanterre prosecutors' office said.
Siad's name appeared nearly 2,000 times in the Epstein files released by the U.S. Department of Justice. According to reports, he regularly sent Epstein photographs of women he met while traveling. In one email to Epstein in 2014, Siad likened his recruitment efforts to fishing. "In This busyness I feel like fisherman some time I cache quick, some time no fish," he wrote.
Siad was one of several French men accused of aiding Epstein to traffic and abuse women. Multiple women say he connected them to Epstein, who then abused them. Siad maintained that Epstein had deceived him and that he had no reason to know the sex offender was dangerous.
Siad's lawyer, Menya Arab-Tigrine, told the AFP agency that Siad died an innocent man. "If he died of a heart attack, the unbearable waiting, the pressure and the anxiety he suffered every day will have had something to do with it," Arab-Tigrine said.
Siad is not the first person in the modeling industry with Epstein connections to have died suddenly in France. In 2022, modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel hanged himself in prison in France after being arrested over allegations he procured women for Epstein. Epstein died in prison in the U.S. in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking, also by suicide, according to U.S. authorities.
The investigation into Siad's death is ongoing, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Prosecutors in the Paris suburb of Nanterre said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of Siad’s death.
Siad had not yet been questioned by investigators in France but denied the allegations against him, saying he wanted to be heard to give his version of events. His lawyer said he died an innocent man.

Siad was understood to have remained in contact with Epstein until months before the financier's death and receiving wire payments from him. He was suspected of carrying out ‘scouting’ missions to villages in Eastern Europe, islands in Sweden, and Havana where he would watch for suitable young women.
One victim named in reports only as Anya has previously said that Siad introduced her to Epstein. Siad was understood to have close links to modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel. In 2020, French authorities arrested Brunel after allegations he procured women for the paedophile US billionaire. He was found dead in prison in 2022.
Epstein died in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking. The investigation into Siad's death is ongoing, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
