Estonia actor and lawmaker condemn youth gang assault on teen in Viimsi: eyewitnesses report attackers laughed
A brutal assault on a 17-year-old girl in Viimsi, Estonia, has drawn public attention after local actor and entrepreneur Vladas Radvilavicius spoke out about escalating youth violence in the area. Radvilavicius, known for his role in the series *Pilvede all* and his long-term residence in Viimsi, described the incident as part of a broader pattern, stating that he himself was targeted by armed youths near his home years ago. “A couple of years ago, young people aimed a gun at me right outside my own house,” he said, adding that today’s youth are granted many freedoms and rights but often lack accountability for their actions .
Eyewitness accounts suggest the assault may have involved up to 20 people. A bystander reported that after the attack, the perpetrators showed no remorse, instead laughing and jeering . The incident has also prompted a response from Estonian musician and lawmaker Stig Rästa, who posted an emotional video message addressing both the victim and the assailants. Rästa expressed sorrow for the victim while acknowledging the assailants’ own struggles. “They, too, have something deeply broken,” he said, urging society to examine how such violence could occur .
Local residents have linked the violence to longstanding issues with youth gangs in Viimsi, with some describing the area’s parks as persistent trouble spots. The recent assault follows years of reported tensions, though authorities have not yet confirmed the full scope of the incident or the number of individuals involved.
Meanwhile, August 20 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of *October Rust*, the fourth album by Brooklyn-based gothic metal band Type O Negative. The 1996 record was noted for its blend of sensitivity and harshness, though critics at the time argued the band’s execution sometimes undercut its ambitions .
