Barcelona transforms shop windows into art exhibits in Gòtic district blending commerce and history
Barcelona’s historic neighborhoods are increasingly hosting hybrid cultural spaces that blend art, leisure and history, with new venues opening in areas like Gòtic and Eixample.
In the Gòtic district, the *Escaparates Artísticos* event will transform around 40 shop windows into art exhibitions from Oct. 6 to 31, merging commerce with contemporary art against the backdrop of the city’s 2,000-year history. The route winds through streets where Roman columns from the Temple of Augustus still stand, including four preserved at the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya on Carrer Paradís, while four others flank the entrance of the Palau de la Generalitat, repurposed from a temple in ancient Tarraco. The area, developed around the cathedral, retains traces of Roman, medieval and 19th-century bourgeois Barcelona, offering a layered historical setting for the event .
Elsewhere, new venues are redefining cultural engagement. On Calle Casp, 12, the Club del Disco opened its 300-square-meter Barcelona branch over a week ago, offering high-end vinyl listening sessions, live concerts for up to 100 people, and a space for music enthusiasts to gather. Many upcoming activities are free, with entry secured via the venue’s website . On Calle Brosolí, 7, Dr. Stravinsky Parfumerie combines a cocktail bar with a perfumery, where each of the 16 signature drinks can be paired with three different fragrances to alter the tasting experience. The venue, designed with literary codes by Mad Studio and part of Grup Confiteria, also plans workshops and tastings in its on-site laboratory, where advanced machinery is used for distillations and fermentations .
