Vice President JD Vance and wife welcome fourth child, first born to a sitting VP in over 150 years
Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha Vance announced the birth of their fourth child, a son named Alec Neel Vance, on Sunday.
The baby was born at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. In a statement posted on the platform X, the couple said, "Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother."
The Vances expressed their gratitude to military doctors for their care. This is the first child born to a sitting vice president in more than 150 years. According to the White House Historical Association, the last time a sitting vice president became a father was in 1870 when Schuyler Colfax had a son.
JD Vance, a former U.S. Marine and graduate of Yale Law School, has been a vocal advocate for increasing birth rates in the United States. He and Usha Vance have three other children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.
The couple met while attending Yale Law School and have been married since 2014. They announced Usha Vance's pregnancy in January.
The birth of Alec Neel Vance comes at a time when several top members of President Donald Trump's administration have welcomed new children. White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller and his wife Katie recently had their fourth child, and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt had her second child in May.
