Trump says he is happy Harry and Meghan left US for UK, calls them disrespectful to monarchy
President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he was “happy” that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, had left the United States to return to the United Kingdom.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he was “not a fan” of the couple, accusing them of treating the British royal family with “great disrespect.” He added that he would not have welcomed them back if he were a member of the monarchy. “I had a very good relationship with the Queen. Really good. I got to know her very well,” Trump said. “A really good relationship with King Charles. I knew him as Prince Charles and King Charles. I’ve known him for a long time. He’s great, great guy.”
The Sussexes, who stepped down as working royals in 2020, moved to the U.S. and later criticized the monarchy in public interviews. They returned to the UK last week with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and are expected to remain non-working royals. Reports suggest they plan to settle in the Cotswolds for an extended period, with their children enrolling in British schools.
Trump’s remarks came as the family’s relocation sparked discussion over their future arrangements, including security funding. Harry has previously raised concerns about his family’s safety in the UK .
