Five mountaineers from Bosnia and Herzegovina died while attempting to climb Mount Elbrus in Russia, according to the head of the Mountain Rescue Service in Zenica. All of the deceased were from the city of Zenica. The group consisted of members from the Zenica Mountain Rescue Service and the Vedro Mountaineering Society. According to Russian media, the weather suddenly worsened, and two people fell ill. Four people were being searched for.
In Greece, a 2-year-old child is in critical but stable condition after being pulled unconscious from a swimming pool in Chania. The child was found without vital signs in a pool at a residence in the Municipality of Apokoronas. The child was intubated and transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the University Hospital of Heraklion. Doctors are monitoring the child for possible brain damage due to oxygen deprivation. The child is estimated to have been underwater for about two to three minutes, which is critical for a child of that age.
In Austria, a 69-year-old man from Liechtenstein died after falling 80 to 100 meters in a mountain accident in Bichlbach, Tirol. He was part of a group of 11 people. The accident happened in the Hochschrutte area in the Reutte district of Tirol.
In Norway, a rescue operation is underway for a man who fell into the Teigdalselva river while kayaking. The man was found conscious but injured on the riverbank. Rescue teams are having difficulty accessing the area due to rough terrain and dense forest.
In Germany, a 25-year-old man was rescued after suffering a cramp while swimming in Heidesee lake in Halle. He was unharmed and released after medical examination. The man was rescued during a water rescue exercise.
In Romania, mountain rescuers conducted several operations in the Maramureș mountains, including the rescue of three exhausted Ukrainian citizens. One of them was found exhausted with foot injuries, and the others were also exhausted but without serious medical issues.
In Russia, one person died and around 30 were injured due to a severe storm in the Rostov region, which caused flooding, uprooted trees, and damaged cars. Around 90 trains were delayed due to the storm.
A search is underway on Lake Como in Italy for a 45-year-old Dutch tourist who went missing after jumping into the water to help his son. His boat with small children on board was left adrift.
In Germany, a 34-year-old man died after jumping into the Lahn river in Giessen. Witnesses saw the man jump into the river for a swim, and he did not resurface.
In Slovenia, mountain rescuers were busy with several rescues in different mountain areas, including the rescue of two exhausted alpine climbers. Rescuers used helicopters to reach stranded climbers in various mountain areas.
BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić sent condolences to the families of the mountaineers who died on Mount Elbrus, expressing his sadness over the tragic accident.
