Toyota unveils all-electric C-HR crossover on dedicated platform as EV competition grows
Toyota has unveiled the C-HR+, an all-electric model that shares its name with the brand’s existing crossover but is built on a dedicated electric platform. The vehicle is larger than its predecessor and introduces a new driving experience, according to a test drive report published by *Il Fatto Quotidiano* on Friday .
The C-HR+ arrives as Toyota expands its electric lineup, with the model positioned as a distinct offering despite its familiar branding. The report notes that the vehicle’s design and dimensions reflect its electric-only underpinnings, though specific technical details were not disclosed in the available material.
The announcement follows broader industry trends, including the rise of 800-volt electric architectures, which are gaining traction in Europe. German publication *Handelsblatt* reported on Friday that such systems, while more expensive, offer faster charging and sustained high performance, with models like the BYD Atto 3 Evo now priced below €50,000 . The Atto 3 Evo can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 25 minutes at up to 220 kW, the report added.
Volvo, another major automaker, is also preparing to launch a new electric model, the EX50, from its Slovakian plant. Hungarian outlet *HVG* described the EX50 on Friday as a “supermodern” 800-volt electric vehicle, though no further specifications were provided .
