Poland and Norway arrest suspects after separate shootings and fatal assault
Police in Poland and Norway have made arrests in two separate violent incidents over the past two days.
In Swarzędz, near Poznań, a 51-year-old man was detained late Sunday after a woman was found with a gunshot wound to the head, Sgt. Michał Wiśniowski of the Poznań police press team announced before 10 p.m. local time. The woman, discovered unconscious on a staircase at Wielka Rybacka Street around 3:25 p.m. Saturday, remains in critical condition in a hospital. Authorities confirmed the injury was likely caused by a black powder firearm and seized a weapon along with the suspect . Local Radio Poznań reported, citing neighbors, that the victim had separated from her former partner months earlier.
In Sandnes, Norway, a man in his 20s was charged with murder following a violent incident early Monday. Emergency services alerted police at 4:02 a.m. to a serious assault at a residence in the Trones area, according to operations leader Nina Bru Nevøy of the Sørvest police district. Officers arrested the suspect at the scene and launched an investigation . By Monday morning, police confirmed the victim was a man in his 50s and that the suspect and victim knew each other, with both linked to the address, police prosecutor Christine Kleppa said. Authorities have interviewed multiple witnesses and cordoned off the property for forensic examination . A defense attorney has not yet been appointed, police told NRK.
