Three shot in Denmark industrial area after police respond to fire: one dead, officer injured
Three people were shot during a confrontation in an industrial area in Nørresundby on Friday afternoon, North Jutland Police reported. One civilian has died, a police officer was injured, and the suspected perpetrator was seriously injured.
The incident began when police received a report of a fire in a building in the industrial area. Upon arriving at the scene, police were fired upon by the suspect. The police returned fire, resulting in the suspect being seriously injured. The civilian who died was found at the scene after the suspect was neutralized.
According to North Jutland Police, the police officer who was shot in the leg is in stable condition. The suspect was shot in the neck and is in serious condition.
"We can't say more about their condition, but it is serious, and we have a massive presence on site," said Deputy Police Inspector Søren Pejtersen in a press release.
The police have cordoned off the area and are conducting an extensive investigation. The public is advised to avoid the area. The police have stated that the incident is not believed to be related to gang crime.
"We must now investigate the entire course of events. We do not yet know the exact circumstances and what led to the shooting. This is what our ongoing investigation must thoroughly clarify," said Claus Danø, a police spokesperson.
The incident has drawn a significant response from emergency services, with multiple ambulances and heavily armed police officers at the scene. Black smoke was seen rising from the area, and several explosions were reported by witnesses.
The police received the first report of the fire at 13:39. The shooting incident was reported shortly thereafter. The police have confirmed that the shooting is over, but they continue to investigate the scene.
The area is located near several workshop businesses, and a local store, Støvlsig Hestefoder, warned people to stay away from the area on their Facebook page.
The police have not released any further information about the identities of those involved or the exact circumstances leading to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
