Verstappen extends Red Bull Formula 1 contract until 2030 ahead of final Dutch Grand Prix

Max Verstappen extended his contract with Red Bull Racing until the end of the 2030 season, the team announced on Thursday ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. The four-time Formula 1 world champion had previously been under contract until the end of 2028 .
Verstappen, 28, told journalists at Zandvoort that he had been closer to retiring from Formula 1 than switching teams. “I have always felt good at Red Bull, and if you feel good somewhere, I see no reason to change,” he said. He added that he had considered leaving the sport entirely earlier this season due to frustrations with the new hybrid engine regulations, which require drivers to manage battery power rather than drive at full pace .
The Dutch driver praised Red Bull for allowing him to pursue interests outside Formula 1, including endurance racing such as the Nürburgring 24 Hours, where he recently competed in a Red Bull-branded Mercedes AMG GT. “I’m still hungry, I love racing, and I want to win,” Verstappen said, reaffirming his commitment to the team he joined in 2016 .
Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies called the extension “fantastic news for everyone at Red Bull, Oracle Red Bull Racing, as well as for F1 and motorsport as a whole.” Verstappen, who has won 71 Grand Prix races and four consecutive world titles from 2021 to 2024, currently sits sixth in the drivers’ standings this season without a victory .
The announcement came as Verstappen prepared for the final Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, a circuit set to drop off the calendar next year. “It has always been special here. I want to experience that positive atmosphere one last time and finish well,” he said .
Verstappen’s decision follows a season of public criticism of the new technical regulations, which he has described as poorly conceived, forcing drivers to adopt unnatural driving styles. Despite Red Bull’s struggles this year, he emphasized his belief in the team’s ability to return to the front of the grid .
