Polish President Karol Nawrocki accused Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government of “distributing fear” to divert attention from a looming financial crisis, during a speech in Stargard on Friday. Nawrocki stated that the tactic was meant to shift focus from the country’s dire fiscal situation and the lack of accountability for it.
Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk rebutted Nawrocki’s claims on Friday evening, calling the denial of security threats “irresponsible.” Tomczyk cited recent evacuations of border crossings due to rocket attack risks, such as the incident near Dorohusk, and noted that 50 saboteurs arrested by special services are currently in Polish prisons. He questioned what additional evidence Nawrocki needed to acknowledge the severity of the threat, emphasizing that intelligence from Polish and foreign agencies, including the U.S. CIA, confirmed the risks .
Tomczyk also criticized Nawrocki’s stance as politically motivated, suggesting it aligned with the opposition PiS party’s position. He argued that ignoring the documented threats—such as the drone strike near the Dorohusk-Jagodzin border crossing—undermined national security .
