Serie A footballer Trepy in medically induced coma after near-drowning in Sardinia pool

Cagliari striker Yael Trepy is in intensive care at Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari, Sardinia, after nearly drowning in a swimming pool, the [Serie A](en.wikipedia.org) club confirmed on Monday.
The 20-year-old French forward was rescued on Sunday afternoon from a villa pool in Porto Cervo on the Costa Smeralda, according to Italian media reports. Authorities said Trepy, who cannot swim, entered the deeper section of the pool and inhaled a significant amount of water, leading to respiratory distress. He was airlifted by emergency helicopter to the hospital, where doctors placed him in a medically induced coma, Italian news agency Ansa and Sardinian outlet *Unione Sarda* reported .
Cagliari stated it is in constant contact with the hospital and Trepy’s family, adding that the club’s thoughts are with the player. Trepy joined Cagliari’s youth academy in 2022 from US Créteil-Lusitanos, a Paris-based club. He made his Serie A debut in January against Cremonese, scoring his first goal in that match. On Friday, he started in Cagliari’s 1-0 Coppa Italia victory over Arezzo, playing 54 minutes .
Italian media reported that a CT scan revealed fluid in Trepy’s lungs, complicating oxygen exchange. Police preliminary findings indicated he became unwell while in the pool before submerging . The club has not disclosed further details on his condition.
