Bucharest poll: PSD leads local election race with narrow margin over PNL and AUR
A new poll by CURS shows that 73% of Bucharest residents believe Romania is heading in the wrong direction, while 18% think the country is on the right path and 9% offered no opinion. The survey, conducted between Aug. 21-28 among 1,069 adults in the capital, also found that 63% of respondents feel Bucharest itself is moving in the wrong direction, compared to 25% who disagree .
If local elections were held next Sunday, the Social Democratic Party (PSD) would lead with 22% of the vote, followed by the National Liberal Party (PNL) at 21%, according to the same poll. The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) would secure 20%, while the Save Romania Union (USR) would receive 18%. Smaller parties include SENS at 6%, PNRR-Piedone at 5%, S.O.S. Romania at 4%, and ACT at 2%. The margin of error is ±3% at a 95% confidence level .
Traffic and congestion were identified as the top priority for Bucharest’s mayoral administration, cited by 33% of respondents. Poor road conditions ranked second at 19%, followed by parking issues at 11%. Taxes and fees concerned 8%, living standards 7%, while cleanliness, sanitation, hospitals, healthcare, and medicine each drew 6% .
The poll was conducted via computer-assisted telephone interviews, with data weighted against the latest National Institute of Statistics figures for Bucharest’s adult population. The results were validated and adjusted for age structure .
