US Marshals arrest Tate brothers in Miami on UK human trafficking and rape charges

Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested in Miami on Saturday by U.S. Marshals on charges related to human trafficking and sexual offenses, at the request of the United Kingdom. The brothers are now awaiting extradition proceedings in the United States.

The UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced 38 additional charges against the Tate brothers on Friday, relating to four more alleged victims. Andrew Tate, 39, faces 42 charges, including seven counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, three counts of causing bodily harm, and 19 additional offenses related to pornography. His brother, Tristan Tate, 38, faces 17 charges, including one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

The charges relate to alleged offenses committed between July 2010 and August 2017 in the East of England region, just north of London. According to Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the Crown Prosecution Service's Special Crime Division, the total number of alleged victims in the case has risen to seven.

Bedfordshire Police stated that officers from their major crime unit have been working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service and both national and international law enforcement agencies as part of this complex investigation. The Department of Justice confirmed that the arrests were made in accordance with the treaties and law enforcement agreements governing Justice Department extraditions.

The Tate brothers' attorney, Joeseph McBride, told CNN on Sunday that the brothers will appear in Miami federal court on Monday and are expected to reject the extradition request. McBride criticized the UK's move to seek extradition, citing a long-standing agreement between the UK and Romanian governments that the UK would not seek extradition while the Romanian proceedings are pending.

"The brothers are innocent," McBride said, adding that they are being held in solitary confinement. The brothers were in Washington, DC, earlier this month where they held political meetings, McBride told CNN.

The Tate brothers, who promote hypermasculinity and have millions of followers on social media, deny all the allegations. Both men also face charges in Romania, including human trafficking, rape, and forming an organized criminal group.

Previously, the Crown Prosecution Service had brought 21 criminal charges against the Tate brothers in a separate case, including rape, causing bodily harm, and human trafficking.

According to Ukrinform, in June, Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was convicted on two counts of rape, as well as domestic violence and other offenses, and sentenced to four years in prison.

The Tate brothers were detained in Miami while attending a bare-knuckle boxing event on July 18, 2026. The UK's Crown Prosecution Service announced prosecution for rape, sex trafficking, and assault charges against the Tate brothers on July 19, 2026.

The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed the arrest of the Tate brothers in Miami on Saturday. The brothers are expected to appear in Miami federal court on Monday, July 20, 2026.

Bedfordshire Assistant Chief Constable Karena Thomas stated, "Officers from our major crime unit have been working closely alongside the Crown Prosecution Service and both national and international law enforcement agencies as part of this complex investigation."

The Tate brothers' attorney, Joeseph McBride, posted a statement on X Sunday, saying the brothers were arrested for their politics and are being held in solitary confinement.

CNN has reached out to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier for information about where and how the brothers are being held.

Romanian prosecutors previously accused the brothers of trafficking women across Romania, the United Kingdom, and the US and sexually exploiting them. The Tates have repeatedly rejected the allegations made against them in that case.
