Hungarian neurologist warns of rising chronic illnesses in young adults in their 20s and 30s

A Hungarian neurologist with 25 years of experience has raised concerns over the rising number of young adults diagnosed with multiple chronic illnesses, according to a commentary published on Saturday.
The physician, who has practiced neurology for a quarter-century, noted an increasing trend of patients in their 20s and 30s presenting with three, four, or even five chronic conditions, including autism, Tourette syndrome, ADHD, migraines, fibromyalgia, PCOS, depression, eating disorders, and anxiety. The neurologist expressed surprise at the frequency of such cases, stating that it is now unusual to encounter a patient without a lengthy medical history.
The commentary also highlighted a broader rise in diagnoses of mental disorders, behavioral and learning difficulties, as well as physical conditions like asthma, which increased by 48% in the U.S. over the past 25 years. Global diabetes cases have reached 537 million, with projections of 783 million by 2045. The neurologist questioned whether these trends reflect a decline in health or improved diagnostic capabilities, suggesting that some newly established diagnoses may not be as straightforward as they appear .
