Mourinhos Real Madrid edge Inter Milan as Haaland double fires Manchester City past Porto

Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid began their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 win over Inter Milan on Tuesday, while Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City defeated Porto 2-0.
At the Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid took a two-goal lead in the first half after Inter errors gifted opportunities to Kylian Mbappe and Fede Valverde. Mbappe opened the scoring in the 14th minute following a defensive mistake, and Valverde doubled the advantage after Inter goalkeeper Josep Martinez’s hesitation in his own box. Carlos Augusto pulled one back for Inter, but Madrid held on for Mourinho’s first Champions League victory since returning to the club .
In Porto, Haaland broke the deadlock two minutes after halftime with a header from Enzo Fernandez’s cross, then sealed the win in stoppage time to reach 59 goals in 59 Champions League appearances. Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa made several saves to deny Haaland in the first half, but City’s pressure eventually paid off .
Mourinho, who led Inter to Champions League glory in 2010, called the match “a crazy game” that could have ended 7-6 . Haaland, meanwhile, told Amazon Prime that City had delivered under pressure on the biggest stage .
