The European Parliament will open an office in Ottawa to strengthen parliamentary ties with Canada, the institution announced on Monday.
The decision, made by the Parliament’s Bureau, aims to deepen cooperation on transatlantic security, trade and Arctic issues, according to a press release. The office will also promote the Parliament’s work in Canada and facilitate exchanges between European and Canadian lawmakers.
Parliament President Roberta Metsola said the move reflects the need for closer collaboration between like-minded partners. “In a time when the world is becoming more unpredictable, partners in full alignment must work together more closely,” she said. “Europe and Canada share values, interests and a commitment to the same rules-based international order. Our presence in Ottawa will turn this partnership into even closer parliamentary cooperation—from transatlantic security and trade to the Arctic and all the challenges we face together.”
The Ottawa office will be the Parliament’s 10th outside the EU, joining existing locations in Addis Ababa, Chișinău, Jakarta, London, New York, Panama, Tirana, Washington and Kyiv .
