Robots march outside Polands digital ministry demanding AI workplace regulations
Around 30 robots marched in front of Poland’s digital affairs ministry on Monday, waving flags and broadcasting slogans such as “Defend jobs,” “It’s time to set rules,” and “Don’t wait, regulate.” The protest, organized by the Democratism initiative, featured humanoid and quadruped robots demanding stronger workplace regulations for artificial intelligence.
Grzegorz Kulis, the protest organizer and an IT director at a robotics company, told AFP the demonstration aimed to spark debate on the social and economic consequences of automation, particularly the potential replacement of knowledge-based workers by AI and humanoid robots. “If such a robot is several times more efficient and cheaper, few company bosses will say: I will continue to hire people,” Kulis said.
Poland’s Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski visited the protest and acknowledged the risks of unchecked AI models integrated into evolving humanoids, calling it a “major problem.” The demonstration follows Poland’s July adoption of an EU AI Act implementation law, which established a national authority to enforce existing European regulations.
