Netherlands to return to Eurovision in 2027 after boycott over Israels participation
The Netherlands will return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027 under the Dutch state broadcaster NPO, ending a boycott over Israel’s participation, NPO announced on Wednesday.
The country skipped the 2026 contest in protest, and its previous broadcaster, AVROTROS, had said last month it would also boycott 2027. However, AVROTROS left the final decision to other Dutch broadcasters, effectively passing responsibility to NPO. NPO stated that the European Broadcasting Union had taken “significant measures” in response to criticism from non-participating countries in 2026 but acknowledged the decision would likely provoke “mixed feelings” in the Netherlands .
NPO Chair Jet de Ranitz said the broadcaster would actively shape the contest’s future, emphasizing Eurovision’s unifying character. A special team will oversee the selection of the Dutch representative, with NOS handling broadcasts and commentary .
The 2027 contest will take place on May 11, 13, and 15 in Burgas, Bulgaria .
