Moldovan National Theater tours Greece with Shakespeare and novel-based performances
The National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” from Chișinău will embark on a tour of Greece from Oct. 12–18, presenting performances and participating in cultural events in Piraeus, Athens, and Thessaloniki, according to MOLDPRES.
The tour opens on Oct. 12 at Piraeus Municipal Theater with “Grădina de sticlă,” directed by Petru Hadârcă and based on Tatiana Țîbuleac’s novel, performed in Romanian with Greek and English surtitles. On Oct. 13, the National Theater of Athens’ Ziller Hall will host the recital “Suntem ceea ce iubim...,” featuring music, poetry, and history with theater artists including Hadârcă, Anatol Durbală, and Angela Ciobanu. Admission is free.
The tour concludes in Thessaloniki on Oct. 17–18 with the theater’s first participation in the 61st Dimitria Festival, staging Shakespeare’s “Richard III,” directed by Hadârcă with Durbală in the title role. The theater stated the tour aims to foster cultural dialogue between Moldova, Romania, and Greece, organized in collaboration with the Moldovan and Romanian embassies in Greece and supported by Moldova’s Ministry of Culture .
