Ukrainian drone strikes halt two Rosneft refineries in Russia: Syzran, Saratov shut down
Ukrainian drone attacks have halted operations at two Rosneft oil refineries in Russia, according to Reuters.
The Syzran refinery in Russia’s Samara Region stopped processing crude on Tuesday after a drone strike damaged several units, including its main AVT-6 crude oil distillation unit, which accounts for about 71% of the plant’s capacity. A second unit, AVT-5, was already undergoing repairs following a July attack, and full repairs may now take at least a month, Reuters sources said. The Syzran refinery has a nominal capacity of 8.5 million metric tonnes per year.
The Saratov refinery, with a capacity of 7 million metric tonnes per year, suspended operations on Sept. 11 after a drone attack. It had previously shut down on Sept. 8 due to equipment damage and fires from an earlier strike and was preparing to resume operations on Sept. 10–11 before the latest attack.
Reuters reported that three of Russia’s six largest diesel-producing refineries have now sharply reduced output or shut down completely in September due to damage from Ukrainian drone attacks. The six refineries—Omsk, Kirishi (Kinef), Volgograd, Perm, NORSI, and Taneco—account for about half of Russia’s diesel production, according to the agency. Kinef has shut down entirely, while Volgograd and NORSI are operating at roughly 25% of their capacity.
