Uber to cut 3,300 jobs in global restructuring to streamline operations
Uber will cut 10% of its global workforce, eliminating about 3,300 jobs, as part of a major restructuring to simplify operations, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced in a memo to staff on Wednesday. The San Francisco-based company, which employs roughly 34,000 people across more than 70 countries, said the layoffs aim to reduce management layers, merge teams, and streamline decision-making .
Khosrowshahi stated the changes would make Uber “simpler and faster” and free up resources for future investments, including autonomous vehicles. The company also plans to consolidate operational and tech teams, cut nearly 50% of “micro-teams,” and reduce the number of employees more than seven layers removed from the CEO by 20% .
Affected employees have been notified, though some regions, including the EU, require a 30-day consultation period with worker representatives after notifying authorities . The cuts are Uber’s largest since 2020, when it laid off 6,700 workers during the pandemic .
