Deputy Mayor De Mos called the violence “a line crossed” and justified the decision to cancel the march while permitting the static protest, adding that police efforts prevented the unrest from spreading into the city .
The demonstration, organized under the motto “Wir sind das Volk,” was initially registered as a protest against Dutch government immigration policies. Authorities banned the march after clashes began, and the 24 arrests were made on suspicion of violating the emergency order and illegal weapons possession .
