
SpaceX announced plans on Tuesday to invest up to $100 billion in a new spaceport in Louisiana, dubbed Starbase Louisiana, with ambitions to support over 30 Starship flights daily and create thousands of jobs. The project, described by the company as "like no other," would significantly expand its launch capabilities .
The announcement follows a separate Reuters report confirming SpaceX’s intent to build the Starship-focused spaceport in the state . InsiderPaper earlier broke the news, framing the initiative as a major economic and aerospace milestone .
Meanwhile, United Airlines revealed a sweeping expansion of its international network, adding nine new routes for 2027. The carrier will launch nonstop flights from San Francisco to Okinawa, Japan, beginning March 27, and from Newark to Ljubljana, Slovenia; Olbia, Sardinia; Catania, Sicily; Ibiza, Spain; Valencia, Spain; Marseille, France; and Terceira in Portugal’s Azores between May and June. Two business-focused routes—Newark to Luxembourg and Washington Dulles to Toulouse, France—will start in April. United CEO Scott Kirby noted the routes will operate through October, extending beyond traditional summer peaks .
In autonomous vehicle developments, Waymo announced it will deploy its robotaxis in Munich by the end of 2027, marking its first commercial service in the European Union. The Alphabet subsidiary will begin high-definition mapping and manual driving in the coming weeks, with Bavarian officials emphasizing the region’s push to lead in autonomous driving. Florian Herrmann, head of the Bavarian state chancellery, stated, “Bavaria is determined to live up to its pioneering role and be an international leader in autonomous driving. Now we need to move quickly from testing to real-world deployment” .
Amazon’s Zoox also advanced its robotaxi ambitions, securing approval to carry paid fares in Nevada and offering free rides in California, intensifying competition with Waymo and Tesla . Waymo separately confirmed Munich as its second European city after London, where it plans to launch later this year .
