Lithuania PM to discuss Rail Baltica lawsuits as contractors sue project entity
Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius will meet Transport Minister Juras Taminskas next week to discuss legal claims against LTG Infra over the Rail Baltica project, he told reporters in Karmelava on Wednesday. Business news portal Verslo Zinios reported on Tuesday that contractors HISK, Tilsta and Italy’s Rizzani de Eccher have filed four lawsuits against LTG Infra, the entity implementing Rail Baltica .
Sinkevicius also addressed Air Baltic’s decision to suspend three winter routes from Lithuania, including Vilnius to Berlin and Dubai, and Palanga to Tenerife. He stated that Lithuania’s priority is maintaining the overall number of flight connections. “We are perhaps not thinking so much about purchasing shares in Air Baltic or contributing to the airline’s operations; as a country, we are interested in seeing the number of flight destinations continue to grow, or at least not decrease,” Sinkevicius said. He added that Lithuania has not received a new offer to acquire shares in Air Baltic following an earlier proposal from Latvia .
In Latvia, the first phase of the Rail Baltica main line is planned within the current scope, with significant optimization, according to the Baltic Times .
Meanwhile, Estonia received its first €351.6 million from the EU’s SAFE facility on Thursday, as reported by the Baltic Times .
Latvia launched Operation Vilkaitis (Werewolf) on Friday to curb illegal migration, with all relevant agencies carrying out coordinated actions .
