eToro to acquire TradeZero for up to 231 million as EU eyes membership rule overhaul

Trading platform eToro reported second-quarter earnings that exceeded Wall Street estimates on Tuesday and announced a cash-and-stock deal to acquire rival TradeZero for up to $231 million. The acquisition aims to accelerate eToro’s expansion in the US Markets, which remained volatile during the quarter amid persistent geopolitical tensions and shifting economic narratives .
The Cyprus-Greece ferry link faces an uncertain future after Charalambos Manoli, chief executive of contractor Scandro Holding Ltd, warned that 2027 could be its final year of operation unless the government extends subsidies. Manoli stated the route is not viable in its current form, as the original plan failed to meet its targets .
Meanwhile, the European Commission is preparing to redesign membership rules for new EU entrants, with a proposal to be presented to EU leaders at a European Council meeting starting Oct. 15. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen seeks to address concerns from member states like France, Germany, and the Netherlands about the risks of rapid expansion, including potential decision-making gridlock. Montenegro aims to join by 2028, with Ukraine and Moldova following, while Iceland considers restarting talks. A diplomat from a skeptical country said, “There’s a reason the enlargement process takes decades. The fear is we bring in a Trojan horse” .
