Fireworks spark vegetation fire at Belgium airshow, halting event

A vegetation fire broke out during the International Sanicole Airshow in Hechtel-Eksel, Belgium, on Saturday, forcing organizers to halt the event. The blaze was caused by fireworks launched from aircraft, which ignited multiple fires in the surrounding vegetation within a restricted area inaccessible to the public, according to the organizers’ statement on their website .
Firefighters responded quickly and brought the flames under control. No injuries were reported. Organizers decided to move up the day’s final act—a drone display—to conclude the program early. The incident will not affect Sunday’s schedule, they confirmed .
A separate report in Dutch media noted the airshow was stopped after the fire erupted due to fireworks .
