Two arrested after explosion at Lviv Oblast recruitment center wounds serviceman
Two local residents were arrested on Sept. 17 after an explosion at a military recruitment center in Mykolaiv, Lviv Oblast, injured a serviceman, authorities said.
The blast occurred near the entrance of the district recruitment center when an unidentified device was thrown from a Daewoo Lanos car, according to the Lviv Special Prosecutor’s Office. Surveillance footage showed an individual in the front passenger seat tossing the explosive onto the facility’s grounds, prosecutors said. A 55-year-old officer approached the device before it detonated, wounding him. He was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
The Lviv Special Prosecutor’s Office classified the incident as a terrorist act and launched a criminal investigation into “a terrorist act resulting in grave consequences.” Law enforcement officers detained two suspects in connection with the attack, the office confirmed. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) stated that the two men threw the explosive device from the car and that additional accomplices were being identified.
The serviceman worked at the Stryi district recruitment center, the Lviv Oblast Military Recruitment and Social Support Center said in a Facebook statement. Investigators and law enforcement were at the scene establishing the circumstances of the incident.
