Prosecutors said Davis, the former leader of the South Side Compton Crips, provided the gun used in the attack and coordinated the retaliation from the front seat of a white Cadillac, from which the fatal shots were fired on Sept. 7, 1996. Shakur, 25, died six days later from his injuries . Davis was not accused of pulling the trigger himself, but Nevada law allows murder convictions for those who aid or facilitate a killing.
The case hinged on Davis’s own past statements, including a 2019 memoir, *Compton Street Legend*, and interviews in which he described being present in the vehicle during the shooting and handing a weapon to others in the car. All other occupants of the Cadillac have since died . Defense attorneys argued Davis had exaggerated or fabricated his role for fame and profit, but prosecutors countered that his repeated accounts over the years corroborated his involvement .
Davis, arrested in July 2023, pleaded not guilty and told the judge after the verdict that he would appeal. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 13, and he faces a potential life sentence . Relatives and friends of Shakur, who attended the three-week trial, were visibly emotional upon hearing the decision .
Shakur, a central figure in the 1990s East Coast-West Coast hip-hop rivalry, was a multiplatinum artist known for hits like *California Love* and *All Eyez on Me*. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2023 . The killing had remained one of the most high-profile unsolved cases in U.S. music history until Davis’s indictment.
