Rain and storms to replace summer heat in Spain and Latvia, forecasters say
Central Europe hit by storms, rain and sharp temperature drop in Poland, Romania, Germany and Ukraine
Spain and Latvia are bracing for a sharp weather shift as summer heat gives way to rain and storms, forecasters said on Friday.
In Spain, temperatures will remain in the mid-30s Celsius across southern regions like Andalucia this weekend, with parts of Murcia, Valencia, and Catalonia also staying warm at 30–33°C, according to Spanish forecasters and AEMET warnings. The Balearic Islands will see similar conditions before a deep Atlantic trough moves in, bringing rain and cooler air from Monday, September 28. Northern and eastern Spain will begin cooling on Saturday, with the change spreading nationwide by Sunday as atmospheric instability increases .
In Latvia, the Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre reported overcast skies and intermittent rain across most of the country on Friday, with coastal winds gusting up to 18 m/s. Rain will persist into Saturday, though conditions will ease by Sunday as an anticyclone approaches, bringing drier, sunnier weather and temperatures up to 20°C early next week . Forecasts also indicated prolonged rain in many areas on Friday .
