Latvia is hosting the international drone defense exercise “Baltic Trust” on Friday, with approximately 650 participants from NATO member states, partner countries including Ukraine, Australia and Japan, and industry representatives from several EU countries. The exercise aims to strengthen the integration of unmanned and anti-drone defense systems in combat operations and improve interoperability between different systems, according to a release from the Latvian National Armed Forces. Staged operations will test responses to reconnaissance and attack drones, including signal jamming and the use of radars, sensors, cameras and other instruments. Local residents near the Sēlija training ground have been advised to expect military transport movement and noise from gunfire and drones.

Meanwhile, Estonia is still awaiting Latvia’s official position on the future of the Rail Baltica infrastructure project. Estonian media reported that Latvia’s intentions remain unclear to other countries involved in the project, with Estonia seeking confirmation on whether Riga plans to alter its railway construction plans.

In digital infrastructure, the international technology company Nebius, headquartered in Amsterdam and born from the restructuring of Russian tech giant Yandex, is recruiting employees in Tallinn for positions including data center IT manager, IT technician, and logistics specialist. The company’s exact plans in Estonia remain undisclosed. Greenergy Data Centers in Hüüru, which is expanding its IT capacity for artificial intelligence computing, did not confirm whether it had struck a deal with Nebius. Martin Rungi, Greenergy’s large-client segment manager, stated that the company is targeting major clients like Amazon, Microsoft and Google but noted that concrete agreements are often confidential until disclosed by the parties involved .

Latvia’s technology company Tet has also expanded its export work through a strategic partnership in Moldova, supporting the broader digital infrastructure growth in the Baltic market .

On the defense front, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys met with Philippine counterpart Theresa Lazaro on Friday to discuss bilateral economic cooperation, cybersecurity, energy and defense ties . Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Latvia’s Economics Minister Viktors Valainis and U.S. company Native Trading to develop a full-cycle artillery rocket production facility in Latvia .
