Liverpool beat Ipswich 2-0 as Isak scores twice to give Iraola first Premier League win

Alexander Isak scored twice in the first 10 minutes as Liverpool secured a 2-0 Premier League win at Ipswich Town on Friday, handing manager Andoni Iraola his first victory since taking charge in the summer.
The Sweden international opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a drilled finish from Cody Gakpo’s pass, beating Ipswich goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen. Three minutes later, Isak doubled the lead after Gakpo’s outside-of-the-foot through-ball sent him past Jacob Greaves for a composed finish.
Iraola, who replaced Arne Slot after Liverpool’s fifth-place finish last season, praised his team’s control and clean sheet. “We needed this win,” he told Sky Sports. “It was also nice to get a clean sheet and control the match.” Isak, who struggled with injuries in his debut season at Anfield, now has three goals in three games this campaign.
Liverpool’s €116 million summer signing Bradley Barcola made his debut as a 64th-minute substitute, while Gakpo—linked with a potential move to Manchester City this week—provided both assists. Ipswich, promoted this season, rarely threatened as Liverpool maintained their dominance at Portman Road.
Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool’s captain, noted the team’s improved directness. “We were more direct, which we wanted, in the start and we scored two great goals,” he told Sky Sports .
