Eight airports in western Colombia suspended operations, and aftershocks continued to rattle the region, with 33 recorded by Tuesday morning .
The cities of Pereira, Manizales, and Cali suffered the most severe damage. In Pereira, at least 40 people died and 65 buildings collapsed, including parts of the Universidad Libre. In Manizales, the towers of the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Cathedral sustained significant damage, while in Cali, the third-largest city in Colombia, numerous buildings collapsed, trapping residents under debris .
The U.S. Department of State pledged $15.5 million in humanitarian assistance to support relief efforts, including emergency shelter, food, and initial damage assessments . The United States, Israel, and Mexico have offered additional aid, according to a statement from President de la Espriella on X .
Rescue teams continue to search for survivors in the rubble, with officials warning that the death toll may rise as operations proceed. The earthquake was felt across a vast area, including in Bogotá and neighboring countries such as Venezuela and Panama .
