Madrid opens free guided tours of 24 historic palaces with two new Baroque sites
The Community of Madrid will open reservations on Sept. 2 at 10:00 for its free guided tours of 24 historic buildings under the *¡Bienvenidos a palacio!* program, running from Sept. 11 to Dec. 1, 2026. This year’s edition introduces two new sites: the Palacio de Goyeneche, a Baroque landmark designed by José Benito de Churriguera in 1722 for Juan de Goyeneche, and the Palacio de Uceda, a 17th-century aristocratic residence in the Madrid de los Austrias district .
The Palacio de Goyeneche, home to the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, features significant artistic collections tied to its history. The Palacio de Uceda will allow visitors to see its imperial-style staircase, the Council of State’s meeting room, and tapestries and paintings of historical value, according to Elena Rosado, coordinator of the guide team . The program offers 8,000 free slots, with each participant limited to one palace reservation and a maximum of two tickets per booking to manage demand .
Reservations must be made through the Community of Madrid’s Central de Reservas de Patrimonio Cultural. The tours will cover reception halls, ballrooms, libraries, and historic gardens, with guides explaining the buildings’ roles in Madrid’s social and political history .
Separately, Madrid’s gastronomic scene will expand this month with the opening of Bar Mistela Chamartín on Sept. 1, introducing Valencia’s *esmorzaret* tradition to the capital. The 400-square-meter venue, located near the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, is the first project outside Valencia for Gastroadictos, a hospitality group founded in 2019. The menu will feature cacaos, pickles, and hearty sandwiches, followed by Valencian dishes such as paella, sepia, and *longaniza de Pascua* .
Additionally, Grupo Pescaderías Coruñesas will open Lhardy Café on Sept. 7 in the Hotel Wellington on Calle Velázquez 8. The bistro-cafetería, inspired by the historic Lhardy restaurant, will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering dishes like consommé in a samovar, croquettes, and smoked salmon, alongside a wine list under the Lhardy label .
