Baltic nations sign 2027-2030 cultural pact as Latvia hosts defense forum with 15 countries
The Baltic countries are deepening regional cooperation this week through high-level forums in Latvia and Estonia, focusing on defense, culture, and economic ties.
In Latvia, the Dual-Use Export Forum began on 6 September in Rēzekne, gathering over 180 participants, including representatives from more than 15 countries and 45 international companies. The two-day event, organized by the Latvian Exporters Association, featured demonstrations of defense and dual-use technologies on land, water, and in the air, followed by business meetings and discussions on integrating Latvian firms into global defense supply chains. Līva Stūrmane, chair of the association, said the forum aims to turn potential into concrete cooperation, with over 150 pre-arranged business meetings planned .
In Estonia, the Baltic Cultural Committee met in Tallinn on 4–5 September, where culture ministers from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania signed a new cooperation program for 2027–2030. Merilin Piipuu, Chancellor of Estonia’s Ministry of Culture, noted that the agreement reinforces cultural ties amid evolving security challenges, with 2027 set to highlight Baltic unity as Estonia hosts a Ukraine reconstruction conference, Latvia’s Liepāja becomes European Capital of Culture, and Lithuania assumes the EU Council presidency. The meeting included visits to cultural institutions and concluded with the first Baltic Opera Gala .
The Riga Aviation Forum, scheduled for 10 September, will further address regional collaboration, with policymakers and industry leaders discussing aviation’s role in economic growth and connectivity .
