Dutch weather agency expands severe thunderstorm warning nationwide after coastal downpours
The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute issued a code yellow warning for severe thunderstorms across the entire country on Monday, with the alert already active in coastal provinces since 2 a.m. .
The warning covers Zeeland, Zuid-Holland, Friesland and Noord-Holland, where heavy rain and wind gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour are expected. The KNMI initially issued the code yellow for coastal provinces on Sunday, citing the risk of intense downpours and strong thunderstorms through Monday midday .
On Monday, the KNMI expanded the warning nationwide, with the code yellow taking effect in non-coastal provinces at noon. The institute emphasized that the heaviest storms are expected along the coast, particularly in Noord-Holland, where localized flooding is possible .
