Finnish woman charged with stabbing boyfriend to death in claimed self-defense at care facility
A 35-year-old woman in Turku, Finland, is accused of stabbing her 49-year-old boyfriend to death in April, claiming self-defense after he allegedly attacked her with a chair.
The woman called emergency services at 11:57 a.m. on April 11, stating the man had assaulted her with a chair in their shared apartment at a 24-hour care facility for mental health and substance abuse patients. She told police she stabbed him repeatedly to stop the attack, using a knife from his bag. Authorities later found the man bleeding in the building’s entrance hall, while the woman, covered in blood, was smoking a cigarette in the apartment.
Police reported the apartment was in chaos, with blood splattered on the walls and signs of a struggle throughout the unit. The woman admitted to stabbing the man at least 17 times, saying, “I just kept stabbing him until he stopped hitting me with the chair.” A facility worker had visited the apartment twice earlier that morning but saw no signs of violence, only noting the disorderly state of the home. The woman had declined invitations to eat both times.
