Rising energy costs are eroding the financial security of Polish consumers, with 34% expecting difficulties paying bills within the next 12 months, according to a new EY survey. Only 45% of respondents reported feeling fully secure about their energy expenses, while 21% already spend over 10% of their income on energy, the study found.
Consumers primarily blame inflation (71%) and energy supplier margins (49%) for the rising costs, the survey showed. Jarosław Wajer, EY Polska partner and energy sector leader, noted that unpredictability in billing has made long-term budgeting difficult, further undermining confidence.
Polish consumers are looking to energy providers (65%), the government (63%), and local authorities (47%) for solutions. The most requested measures include recommendations for cost-saving tariffs tailored to individual usage (43%), incentives for reducing consumption or shifting usage times (37%), and clearer breakdowns of charges on bills (37%) .
